The International Summer School of Cultural Tourism is part of the project “Reconstruction and tourist valorisation of cultural and historical complex of the Rector’s Palace”. Its task is to develop an education program that will, in the short and long term, reduce lack of knowledge and skills in the field of cultural tourism products and their effective promotion. Summer school program is fully funded by the project.

Summer School aims to strengthen the capacity to manage cultural and tourist destination, by raising the level of knowledge and skills necessary for development of high-quality cultural tourism products and improve cultural tourist offering the city.

The University of Zadar (Department of Tourism and Communication Studies) as partner on the project, will establish a special International Summer School of Cultural Tourism that fosters application of new knowledge and experience in the field cultural tourism for generations of students to come, in order to address the lack of knowledge and skills challenge. These are necessary for better and advanced cultural tourism destination offer. Thus, the Summer School will educate new specialized cadres to promote the city and the University, which in a long term contributes to the image of Zadar as a cultural tourism destination. The School Participants are seen as ambassadors of Zadar in the world.

The first International Summer School of Cultural Tourism will be held in the period 24 – 29 of August 2015 at the University of Zadar, New Campus, Franje Tuđmana 24i, Multimedia Hall 117. The participants will be students of partner universities and faculties: University della Svizzera Italiana (USI), Lugano; University of Zagreb; Turistica, Portorož; and University of Zadar.

The aim of the Summer School is also to promote cooperation and exchange of views among students and professors in a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment, for the purpose of acquiring new knowledge in the field of cultural tourism. Participants will attend lectures, workshops and discussions on cultural tourism, marketing in culture and tourism, sustainable destination development, innovation and competitiveness in tourism, the use of new technologies and other similar issues.
